My name is Savannah and I’m a high school student who has strong passions for nutrition, healthy living, the value of family, learning, eating, music, and making the world a better place one smile at a time.
I started reading blogs in late 2010, and they have sparked my passion for health and nutrition! Growing up with two working parents, a younger brother, and a million extra curricular activities, I lived off of microwave meals, Velveeta mac and cheese, and fatty food from restaurants. I had no perception of healthy eating at all. I figured as long as I stayed active, it didn’t matter how many fried foods I ate. I probably ate three servings of veggies and fruit a month.
My parents began dieting between my freshman and sophomore years of high school. At first, this upset me because I didn’t want “diet” food around my house. I was disappointed at the lack of large quantity sugary and salty snacks around my house. For the first time in my house, we began to have fruit around our house. I always loved fruit, but never went out of my way to eat any. Around this time, I also began cooking more for myself. I discovered how poorly my previous nutrition had been, and took it upon myself to start eating better. Through this, I found my love for cooking and baking. The initial heartbreak of Tostido and brownie withdrawal improved my parents’ health tremendously, and ended up being a wake up call for me to devote my life to practicing all around, good health.
